Coolant Distribution Units

The Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) provides close controlled cooling water for a variety of heat exchanger devices such as the Coolcentric Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx). The CDU creates an isolated secondary loop, separate from the chilled water supply (building chilled water, dedicated chiller etc.), enabling strict containment and precise control of the liquid cooling system. The CDU maintains the secondary loop supply temperature above the dew point of the data center, preventing condensation and ensuring 100% sensible cooling. Heat removed by connected RDHx is then transferred to the chilled water supply by means of a stainless steel plate heat exchanger within the CDU. The CDU controller provides intelligent monitoring and interfaces with building management systems and web management tools for the highest reliability.

The CDU Model CD6A is a floor mount CDU. It is a versatile unit designed with redundant variable speed pumps to maximize system availability. This CDU provides up to 260kW cooling capacity to support up to 26 RDHx each with a 10kW load density. The CDU Model CD6A is very energy efficient providing up 260kW of cooling while only consuming a maximum of 3.7kW of energy at 480VAC. This represents nearly 80% reduction in energy consumption when compared to traditional indoor air conditioning units. The CDU Model CD6A is available with a variety of secondary loop distribution options offering maximum flexibility.

The small footprint (600mmx1000mm) and casters makes it easy to deploy and maintain whether the CDU Model CD6A is positioned next to IT enclosures or outside of the white space entirely.

Coolcentric's rack-mount CDU, the CDU Model CDRM is a 6U high unit that mounts within a 19" EIA IT enclosure. Rated at 20kW, the CDU Model CDRM is a cost effective method to support one to two RDHx in a data center or wiring closet.

Rear Door Heat Exchanger - Standard (RDHx)

Coolcentric RDHx provides unmatched reliability, flexibility and cooling performance, all while reducing operating expenses. The RDHx attaches to the back of most industry standard enclosures. Chilled water is fed to the specially designed coil inside the RDHx. The rack-mount devices eject the hot exhaust air through the coil, transferring the heat to the water and ejecting cool air out of the RDHx.

Rear Door Heat Exchanger - Low Density (RDHx-LD)

The Coolcentric© RDHx-LD is a new member of the Coolcentric family of rear door heat exchangers designed to extend available energy and cooling efficiencies, and resulting cost savings, to installations with low to medium rack densities of 5-12 kW. The RDHx-LD can be intermixed with other RDHx family products in a data center installation to accommodate low, medium and high density requirements. In addition, as rack heat loads grow, the RDHx-LD can be easily upgraded to higher capacity heat exchangers to satisfy growing cooling demands thus providing data center owners and operators flexibility and cost avoidance. The RDHx-LD can provide as much as 12kW of sensible cooling per IT enclosure, the standard RDHx up to 33kW and the Sidecar as much as 40kW.

Coolcentric heat exchangers are passive liquid cooled heat exchangers; Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx) replace standard rear doors on IT enclosures, and the Sidecar is an in-row heat exchanger. The rack-mount devices draw cool supply air through the chassis. Heated exhaust air passes through the liquid-filled coil, which can neutralize 100% of the exhaust air before reentry into the data center. The Coolcentric heat exchangers employ specially designed fin and tube coils, protected by two 79% open perforated sheets, to maintain airflow through the IT enclosure. Close-coupled to the IT enclosure, the heat exchangers bring the cooling as close to the heat source as possible thus providing the ultimate containment solution. Taking up a minimum of floor space, the Coolcentric heat exchangers are flexible, efficient and space-saving cooling solutions for data centers.

Sidecar Heat Exchanger

The Coolcentric Sidecar Heat Exchanger is a passive in-row cooler that provides extended cooling capacity for increased rack densities of up to 40kW. The bolt-on Sidecar Assembly has a specially-designed easy access rear door, a side chassis measuring 11.3" wide by 52" deep (290mm x 1330mm), and a much larger coil than a standard Rear Door Heat Exchanger (RDHx). The larger coil provides increased cooling capacity for higher density loads. In addition, because of the larger coil, warmer water could be used to economically cool 20+kW heat loads, reducing the load on the chiller and providing further energy cost savings while maintaining the same cooling capacity of a standard RDHx. In many cases this could also allow the use of Free Water Cooling (using evaporator water), a source of cooling with significantly reduced energy cost.

The Sidecar Assembly is attached to the back and side of the host rack enclosure with the specially-designed rear access door replacing the rack enclosure rear door and providing easy access to cabling.

The Sidecar uses the same proven passive technology as our standard RDHx doors and uses chilled (or Free) water for the heat exchange. The Sidecar takes advantage of air flow from fans built into the rack-mount devices to move hot exhaust air through the coil, transferring heat to the water and flowing cool neutralized air back into the data center. The Sidecar therefore does not need its own power-consuming fans that create heat and add to the noise level in the data center. The passive in row cooling of the Sidecar provides unmatched reliability, flexibility, expandability and cooling performance, all while reducing operating expenses.
